Easy Summer DIY Crafts (Pool Noodle Lights & Gun Painting)

Summer DIY Crafts

Everybody loves the summertime. Longer days, hot weather, and nights without homework—what don’t we like? We are sharing Summer DIY Crafts Easy For Kids. But after a while, completing all this free time can begin to feel like a challenge.

Try one of these DIY projects suitable for the summer if you’re looking to keep your family busy. All of them are easy, affordable, family-friendly, and, most importantly, fun!

Pool Noodle Luminaries

These Pool Noodle Lights are such a fun way to decorate for your upcoming summer party!

I mean, I’m obsessed. Who knew there was so much to do with a pool noose? These tiny pieces of floating foam can be used for any purpose! I enjoy the versatility of them! We were swimming at night in the backyard and I thought it would be fun to throw out some of these Pool Noodle Luminaries.

Seriously. How adorable are these?! Who would have believed that such a simple project could create such a sensation? The colors are vivid and summery! Besides, they look fantastic in the dark!

What you need

  • Plastic wrap
  • LED tea lights
  • Plastic hair tie
  • Scissors
  • Pool noodles

Instructions (step by step)

Cut a piece of plastic wrap and cover the background of the tea light. Secure the plastic wrap in place with the elastic hair tie. This barrier will protect the LED spark plug against water in the battery enclosure.

Use your scissors to cut the excess plastic around the hairband.

Put the tea light in the noodle of the pool.

You may have to stretch the center of the pool noodle a bit to get the candle into it.

Once the candle is placed in the middle of the pool noodle, the foam will re-explain and encase the LED candle. Again, cut the excess plastic wrap that could stick.

I love how those pool noodle lights reflect onto the water! Are they not beautiful?

Squirt Gun Painting

Squirt painting is an exciting summer artistic experience for children and is the ultimate puzzle of boredom! We used Nerf Super Soaker Alphafire Blasters to paint.

I like to avoid the super cheap multipack sprinkler guns commonly found in dollar shops because they seem to end up in the hours. Alpha Fires are still cheap but have the quality that one can expect from Nerf products.

If you’re not into water pistols, use plastic bottles! They work equally well.

What you need

  • Squirt Guns
  • Watercolor Paper
  • Liquid Watercolors
  • Easel

Instructions (step by step)

Arrange the easel in the yard and cut two sheets of watercolor paper on each side.

Invite your children to fill their liquid water guns, then let them go to the painting of the town!

Let the colors dry in the grass. We found it helpful to weigh them with a rock so they don’t fly away.

Every picture was brilliant, unique, and as beautiful as the child who created it.

We’ve now put the water guns in a box where children can easily access them, so the next time he comes to me and says, “I’m bored”, I’ll direct him towards the water guns!
